Fortnite's Ultra-Rare Pirate Shop Token Hunt Sparks Wave of Profiteering and eBay Listings
Fortnite Players Are Doing Things Epic Would Probably Prefer They Didn't to Try to Get the Ultra Rare Pirate Shop Token.
Fortnite's recently launched One Piece crossover event sent players hunting for a rare Pirate Shop Token that would let them plunder the item shop for free. Those lucky enough to find the token can use it to claim almost everything available for free for a two week period (real-money offers, gifting and Battle Pass rewards aren’t allowed). Claimed items remain permanently on the player’s account.
But, perhaps inevitably, players are now doing things that developer Epic Games would probably prefer the didn't in a bid to get ahead, sharing exploits, selling tools to automatically farm the token, and even offering to chaperone other players for a fee.
There’s no official drop rate, but players have estimated you get the token in one out of every 700,000 chests. Like I said, it’s rare. Players have found ways to expedite the process of triggering the drop. Current methods include using grenades and cannon balls to destroy chests inside locked vaults, so they can open many chests at once without going through the effort of getting a key.
One player shared a screenshot of an overlay that shows them where all the chests are in a match, while offering to help people get the token, for a paid fee. Clearly, this is not intended gameplay.

Multiple accounts on eBay are also hoping to cash in, listing Fortnite accounts with Pirate Shop access for thousands of dollars. There are currently no bids on the listings — one asking for $9,000 and offering bids, another asking for $10,000 or nearest offer — but that might change as the season comes to a close on December 4.
Epic’s terms of service explicitly prohibit the buying and selling of Fortnite accounts, as well as cheating or exploiting, so anyone attempting to cash in could end up with an account ban. In such a case, they’d lose access to the account — this could also happen after you buy the account, or the previous owner could contact support and claim the account is stolen. In other words, don’t spend $10,000 on some Fortnite skins.
