Mass Effect fans have taken their mission to save BioWare and its beloved sci-fi franchise to EA headquarters with a truck displaying the #SaveMassEffect message.

The latest update to what has ballooned into a full-blown movement arrived today when the dedicated group of fans known as We are Mass Effect announced they had brought their latest billboard right to the publisher's front door. Where their last push arrived in the form of a daylong billboard in New York City's Times Square, this mobile effort will see a truck sharing the word on the streets surrounding EA and EA Sports HQ in Redwood City, California.

Anyone who visits the area today can spot the truck, which features signage updated with a handy QR code and website URL directing curious players to SaveMassEffect.com. The goal, as We are Mass Effect's Mer told IGN, is to "spread the word and bring as much attention to the movement as possible, " but putting it in EA's front lawn after the publisher put Mass Effect games on hold and shuttered BioWare also sends a message of its own.

"Social media can sometimes make devastating events feel distant or abstract," We are Mass Effect told IGN when asked about the truck. "It’s easy to read about these news online without fully grasping the human impact behind it. So we wanted to bring the movement into the physical world and make that support visible. We want to remind people that real people have been impacted by the closure of BioWare and the cancellation of the game. We wanted to show them that there is a community that deeply cares about the legacy they’ve created. For us this has never been just about the IP but the people behind it and their work."

Driving a truck around EA HQ will certainly gather some attention, but detractors have warned that no amount of momentum will get the publisher to budge. The goal, as We are Mass Effect has outlined, is not only to offer a message of unity for those who love BioWare franchises like Mass Effect or Dragon Age, but to raise awareness about the human beings affected by these changes, too.

Another mobile billboard will appear near BioWare's former offices tomorrow, with the final billboard launching during The Game Awards next month. Billboard organizer, fundraiser, and content creator Kala Elizabeth told IGN the plan is to drive it around the TGA ceremony for around four hours.

"For me, after our billboards are up, I plan to support the devs however possible and bring visibility to anything else that we can support, but as of right now, I don't have any plans to crowdfund more billboards because these were already exhausting," Elizabeth added with a laugh.

Meanwhile, We are Mass Effect said it is currently putting the finishing touches on a video featuring Mass Effect fans, actors, and contributors for N7 Day tomorrow, November 7. Included in the lineup are Commander Shepard actors Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer. The group is also pushing N7 Play Day in an attempt to boost Steam player numbers for Mass Effect: Legendary Edition.

"And, as a fun throwback to 2012, we’re planning to send cupcakes decorated in N7 colors to EA’s headquarters in Redwood City next week," the group said. "There’s a lot happening, and we don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. The response from the community has shown us just how much Mass Effect and BioWare’s legacy mean to people, and we want to continue finding creative ways to make that support visible."

EA closed down BioWare weeks ago, but as fans get ready for N7 Day, they've done anything but go gently into the night. In addition to that Times Square billboard, a petition urging EA to allow the franchise to live in some capacity has gained more than 300,000 signatures. Save Mass Effect graffiti was also reportedly spray-painted outside of an EA office building in Madrid, while another was decorated with tombstones featuring shuttered studios.

"People are upset, not only about what happened to BioWare, but about the many studios, IPs, and talented devs that have gone through the same thing," We are Mass Effect added. "What we can do is to encourage them to keep supporting the initiatives that the community are organizing, and to keep showing up. We don't want this to become another story, another beloved IP that is forgotten. The most important thing is to make sure people continue paying attention and understand just how much these games and the devs behind them mean to so many."

"I think the most important thing is supporting the devs and showing that we care," Elizabeth said. "N7 Day is a huge day for Mass Effect and this year is very different. It's important that we're loud and show our support. Signing the petition, using the hashtag, and amplifying the voices of the devs."

A new documentary that filmed the studio's final years was announced just yesterday. While fans hope to make a difference at EA's front door, the publisher is still pushing merchandise for the paused franchise for N7 Day. Meanwhile, a Canadian politician has recently joined the fight.
